We fail in our duty to study God’s Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy. (R. C. Sproul)

You may as well quit reading and hearing the Word of God, and give it to the devil, if you do not desire to live according to it. (Martin Luther)

Reading the Bible without meditating on it is like trying to eat without swallowing. (Anonymous)

giving my book to Jesus

September 28, 2008 - One Response

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 20

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:

Not that I don’t believe the vision, it’s just that I am not sure that the discussion is helpful. Read the rest of this entry »

The book to read is not the one which thinks for you, but the one which makes you think. No book in the world equals the Bible for that. (McCosh)

victory!!!

September 27, 2008 - Leave a Response

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 19

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
Ever since we saw the vision of Jesus (the Lamb) opening the scroll (God’s plan of kingdom restoration), we have seen how Jesus will accomplish the victory against Satan, sin, death and hell. The many visions contain striking and frightening images and symbols that represent very real events. But the punch line throughout is the same: VICTORY! Read the rest of this entry »

don’t be surprised

September 26, 2008 - One Response

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 18

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
Will the political, economic systems of the world as we know them today last forever? Can we assume that the U.S. will always remain the leading super-power, that English will always remain the main language, that whites will always remain the privileged group in society, that democratic freedoms as we know them will remain, that Christianity will remain the largest world religion? No doubt Rome expected to thrive forever, but eventually things changed. What will the world look like in 50 years? Maybe very different from today. Read the rest of this entry »
